Tracy Punshon, Ph.D., co-Leader of our Trace Element Anaylysis Core (TEAC) and Pianpian Wu, Ph.D., Project 2 Trainee, presented as part of SRP’s Risk E-Learning Webinar series on “Enhancing Integration, Interoperability and Resuse of Data.” Dr. Punshon presented at the May 17 session on “Data Sharing Tools, Workflows, and Platforms” and Dr. Wu spoke at the June 1 session on “Geospatial Platforms for Anaylysis and Visualization Across Environmental Data.”

Rardin Speaks to Private Water Network
Laurie Rardin, Research Translation Coordinator, spoke on effective outreach for private well water testing during a Private Water Network Round Table. Private Well Challenges – A Private Water Network Digital Round Table: consisted of private water safety professionals who discussed the current challenges faced by private well programs and highlighted their successes. The three challenges highlighted were data gaps regarding private wells, effective outreach, and treatment concerns.
Chen Named Co-Chair Fate & Transport Partnership
Director Celia Chen was approved to be Co-chair of the Fate and Transport Partnership of the United Nations Environment Programme Global Mercury Partnership.
Virtual NH Drinking Water Festival
The annual NH Drinking Water Festival will be virtual this year. This Festival has educated and inspired fourth-graders to conserve and protect our water resources for 27 years. To support teachers, students and parents free online resources will be available March through July. Major themes include the water cycle, watersheds, groundwater, wildlife and the human water cycle. Lessons connect with student’s daily lives and explore how they can keep water clean.

World Water Day
What does water mean to you? March 22nd, World Water Day, celebrates water and raises awareness of the global water crisis, and a core focus of the observance is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. March 22 Talk on Mercury for Harvard Superfund Center
Director Celia Chen is an invited speaker for the MEMCARE Superfund Research Program Center Speaker Series. Her talk is on March 22 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm and is titled, Environmental drivers of mercury fate in aquatic food webs: from freshwater to marine ecosystems. SEPA Scientists Talk Arsenic
MDI Biological Laboratory and Dartmouth College, in collaboration with multiple partners in Maine and New Hampshire, are leading an NIH Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) project called: “Data to Action: A secondary school-based citizen science project to address arsenic contamination of well water.” SEPA Co-Leaders Jane Disney and Bruce Stanton will be interviewed by Voice of Maine News/Talk Radio about arsenic in well water, a significant problem for private wells in Maine and New Hampshire. Tune in Saturday 7/25 at 6:30 a.m. and 8 p.m on 103.9 FM (Bangor).
