Nucleate Genesis Program

Nucleate is excited to announce the launch of the Genesis Program beginning in Spring 2022!

Genesis is a virtual, hands-on educational curriculum geared toward teaching life science trainees from around the world the process of taking their own ideas from conception to viable biotech ventures. Over three months, trainees will work in teams alongside a world-class network of scientists and venture capitalists to apply the core principles of biotech company creation to address unanswered questions in biomedicine. The program will culminate in an in-person, final pitch presentation in Boston featuring an esteemed panel of biotechnology experts and investors.

Applications (https://nucleate.typeform.com/to/ysuVS4VG) are open NOW and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until February 11th. The program will run from the beginning of March through the end of May. Please see the attached flyer for a high-level overview of the curriculum.

Patenting in Life Sciences Series

Happy new year, Dartmouth Biotech Club! Nucleate is a free and collaborative student-run organization that facilitates the formation of pioneering life science companies. They’ve teamed up with attorneys and experts at Morrison & Foerster to offer a free series on life science patenting. Topics include small molecule IP strategy and patent drafting, trade secrets, AI/machine learning, and others. RSVP is required but is not a commitment to attend all 9 sessions; you can feel free to attend all sessions or just those that interest you. Dr. Shinichiro (Shin) Fuse, is Partner and Managing Director at TPG Life Sciences Innovation. Previously, he was Managing Director at MPM Capital, where he served on the investment committee of the Oncology Impact Fund (OIF) and BioVentures Funds. Shin served on the Board of Directors of Orna Therapeutics, Triplet Therapeutics, iOmx Therapeutics and a stealth company, and as a board observer for Repare Therapeutics and CODA Biotherapeutics. Shin also played operational roles at MPM portfolio companies as the interim CEO of Orna Therapeutics and interim/founding SVP of Business Development at ElevateBio.

Prior to joining MPM, he was Director of Business Development at bluebird bio, where he was instrumental in executing and managing key industry and academic partnerships in the fields of cell and gene therapy, cancer immunotherapy and genome editing, including the acquisition of Pregenen. Previously, he was at Campbell Alliance (Syneos Health) as a life science strategy consultant, and at PureTech Ventures, where he was a member of the founding team of Vedanta Biosciences. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Dartmouth College, and also as a columnist for Nikkei Biotech, the leading biotech journal in Japan.

Shin received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Dartmouth College, an M.S. in Biomedical Science from the University of Tokyo, and a B.Eng. in Applied Chemistry from Keio University in Japan.

PhD Career Symposium

Unsure about what paths are available to you after you finish your PhD? ‘What Can You Be With a PhD,’ the largest PhD career symposium in the country, is happening virtually this year on November 20-21. The symposium has over 40 different career path sessions and professional development workshops with over 100 speakers. The workshop is hosted biennially by NYU school of medicine with support from 15 other universities and research institutions.
