Dartmouth recognizes that some students wish to identify themselves by a name other than their Legal Name. For this reason, beginning in the fall 2019 term, Dartmouth will enable students to use a “Chosen Name” where possible in the course of their Dartmouth education. They may also indicate their gender identity and pronoun.
Students
A Chosen Name is the name a student wishes to be known by in the Dartmouth community that is different from a student's Legal Name.
Information for students about the Chosen Name and Identity policy and instructions on how to create a Chosen Name can be found on this website.
Employees
Faculty and staff may elect a preferred professional name through Human Resources by accessing Employee Self Service and updating the preferred first, middle or last names on the Personal Information form.
The Controller's Office provides additional information about the preferred professional name policy.
Alumni
Dartmouth alumni interested in electing a chosen or preferred name may contact: alumni.records@dartmouth.edu.
