Fall 2024 CRR Design Walk-Through Meeting Outcomes

Outcomes from the design walk through meeting. The design walk through was an introduction to the Classroom Rapid Refresh design and it's expression in the five refresh spaces identified for fall term 2023.

Meeting: 05/09/23 at 3:00pm EST in Silsby 29A

The design walk through was an introduction to the Classroom Rapid Refresh design and it's expression in the five refresh spaces identified for fall term 2023. Faculty and administrators from resident departments (Anthropology, Government, Economics) were invited to provide input on how the Standard Classroom design would be applied to each physical space with consideration to furniture, finishes, and technology. Responses from the meeting are summarized below. Participants were also asked to submit feedback to dartgo.org/crr-feedback for any additional thoughts or input (feedback is welcome at anytime).

General Comments

  • Retaining current seating capacity is critical and furniture should support maintaining the current capacity
  • 310 and 215 will have 2-person tables and chairs, other spaces will have tablet-arm chairs
  • Layout consideration in 310/215 for two formats, hollow box and row seating (seating diagrams to be provided for comment)
  • Existing chalkboards to be replaced with dry erase (white) boards
  • Design needs to include a clock on the rear wall
  • Introduce more color in the room (color samples to be provided for comment)
  • Classroom recording should be an opt-in model versus automatic
  • A sturdy, mobile instructor podium should be provided that can accommodate two pieces of paper side by side. The podium can be moved off to the side of the room when not needed.
  • Refreshed classrooms should have a fan dedicated to them (hold over until the hot-water conversion project)
  • Investigate alternative furniture for Silsby 29B (seminar style) and increased seat count for Silsby 29A for alignment with department needs while classrooms are closed for refresh uring the fall'23 term

Next Steps

  • Project team will provide color samples that will be used in the rooms
  • Project will provide two examples of seating diagrams for 215 and 310 to demonstrate a hollow box layout with 2-person tables and chairs and rows of seats only that privilege maximum occupancy.
  • Identify a mobile podium solution as a standard piece of furniture that remains in each room
