Get Involved

Are you a student at Dartmouth College? Want to learn more about engineering, product development, or STEM applications of humanitarian issues? Not an engineer, but still want to get involved with important issues?

Come join Dartmouth Humanitarian Engineering! We are a passionate, friendly group of students who are dedicated to the betterment of our world through practical, engineering-based solutions. Since we work on the entire process of product development, students have the ability to work on anything their heart desires, from engineering to business and marketing, PR and tech distribution, investment strategies, and even design. In DHE, there is a world of opportunities yours for the taking.

Still on the fence? Here are some additional reasons why you should join.

1. You love working on projects with real-world consequences.

DHE students have the opportunity to work on new projects frequently, producing something bigger at the end of a year that has an impact beyond a good grade or academic accomplishment.

2. You have always been interested in engineering.

DHE is a student-run club made for everyone. If you have always felt an affinity for engineering, we will be here to help you learn new skills and dive into this fascinating world! From freshman fall to senior spring, you will have the ability to get exposure to product development, brainstorming, engineering principles, and even distribution and PR.

3. You have ideas and interests that are hard to work on without external support.

Want to work on climate change? Poverty? Water access? Annoying wheelchair ramps that are too steep for most people to ascend? DHE gives students the ability to work on engineering-related topics that are hard to get access to as a singular student!

4. You are drawn to humanitarian issues and want to help the world.

DHE’s whole mission is to benefit our society and practice social-impact engineering. Through our club, all students have the ability to analyze real-world problems and find small-scale but impactful solutions that can be implemented by communities around the world.

5. You want to learn more and broaden your horizons.

Beyond being an engineering club, we pride ourselves on being a friendly and low-pressure club that allows every single student, no matter the background, to join and begin to learn the principles behind engineering-based solutions and product development. We welcome all students regardless of major or experience. Everyone brings a unique perspective and we value everyone’s ideas!

6. You want to work with student-led groups.

Tired of having to take direction from professors, PIs, or other authority figures? Want to explore the messy yet totally exhilarating world of student-led initiatives? Join DHE, where every project is headed by students and everyone has a chance to make their mark! Learn about engineering, product design, marketing, and many other skills in a hands-on method alongside other passionate students. In DHE, you are free to steer your passions in your own unique way.

7. You don’t know exactly what you want to work on, but you know you want to do something.

DHE is always working and producing new content. Even when club members don’t have a specific idea, they have the ability to take part in many very different and fascinating projects that are being pitched by other students!

8. You want to continue doing human-centered design.

Did you take the famous ENGS 12 class? Have you heard your friends talk about that famous ENGS 12 class? Have you never heard about this class, but want to do more solutions-based thinking that centers around what people actually need? Come to DHE!

9. You want to meet a community of students, engineers, and friends.

DHE is made up of a bunch of friendly, open-minded, and energetic Dartmouth students who come from all majors and academic disciplines, years, locations, and career plans. Beyond your involvement in various projects, you will always be able to find a friend from DHE even when you’re on hiatus or are simply going to club meetings.
