“I grew up in Southern California and swam for Utah in college. I made Olympic Trials but didn’t go. I knew I wasn’t going to make the Olympic team. I stuck around and coached the men’s and women’s swim teams at Utah. Although we had won our conference championships for several years in a row, they began to deemphasize the program and take away scholarships. I ended up coming to Hanover in 1993 to coach at Dartmouth. A couple of guys on the team asked me to coach water polo as well. For about fifteen years, I coached both sports and now, I am officially the Dartmouth women’s water polo coach.

A memory that makes me instantly smile is thinking about the birth of my children. I have three kids. I am most afraid of not being able to take care of my family, but all my family lives within twelve miles. Having my children close is really important to me. My eldest’s husband is a clerk for the Vermont Supreme Court, and they live in Sharon, Vermont. My middle child is schizophrenic—he is 38 years old and lives alone. My youngest daughter just had her second baby—she is two weeks old. I feel so lucky to be able to watch my grandchildren grow up.”
