“I deeply admire Michelle Obama. There are countless reasons to be amazed by her, but one of the most impressive is that she is a powerhouse change-maker yet also knows how to step out of the spotlight and help her family shine. She was a constant support for her husband while he was president; she is a diligent mother who worked hard to create somewhat normal lives for her daughters; and throughout it all she has been a career woman with her own aspirations and goals.
I have spent much of my adult life trying to figure out the best way to balance the different aspects of my life. I am a single mother and feel fortunate that my daughter decided to move back to the Upper Valley. Being able to spend quality time with her, when schedules allow, makes for a stronger mother/daughter relationship. Spending time with my grand-puppy is a bonus when we are together. I am also a fitness coach, so I get to spend every day helping people feel stronger and more confident. I love helping people fall in love with fitness and celebrating with them at any milestone they reach. I also care deeply about creating a supportive environment where people feel a sense of community with others who are also trying to reach their own personal goals.
Over the years I have learned how to balance the different parts of myself. I have figured out how to be a mother to one, a coach and friend to many, and a support to myself at the same time. I am still growing as a person and as I do the way I approach different parts of my life will change. Luckily there are many people—from Michelle Obama to friends in the Upper Valley—who remind me every day that people are complex and wonderful and can achieve more than they ever expect from themselves.” -Patti Friedman, Lebanon, NH
