Students designed a new, walkable “downtown” living community with higher density, replaced large parking lots with clean public transportation and proposed parking spaces with a smart parking app and electric charging stations, added hundreds of units of much-needed workforce housing above retail and offices, pulled buildings and development from the 100-year floodplain (and aquifer/ best agricultural soils) restoring farmland and the riparian barrier, proposed green solutions for water collection and sewage treatment, used local sustainable and recycled low-carbon healthy materials, and followed the Living Building Challenge creating all of the needed clean energy on site.
