FAQs

What is the dress code at DartMUN?

Consistent with the tradition of Model UN conferences, all delegates are asked to wear Western business attire or other attire of similar formality.

Can we have laptops/electronics in committee?

Delegates are not allowed to use their computers until after the second committee session, and they must receive permission from the Dais from then onwards. The Dais can allow a select number of delegates to exit the committee room to type up the paper/resolution while the rest of the committee is debating. Otherwise, all working papers and resolutions will be typed up by the delegates during unmoderated caucuses. Computer privileges will be revoked if delegates are utilizing them for purposes other than attending committee and writing portions of their papers.

Can we contact our chairs?

Chair emails are listed in the introduction of their respective background guide. Questions about the conference in general should be directed to our conference e-mail: dartmun@dartmouth.edu.

What is an “Ad Hoc”  committee?
  • An Ad Hoc committee is an advanced format of committee wherein delegates are only told the topic/scenario they will debate on on the first day of the conference. No position papers are written for this committee. Ad Hoc is intended for experienced delegates.

What is the policy on note passing?

Passing notes in committee is a privilege given out at the Dais’ discretion. Delegates may silently pass appropriate notes to other delegates in order to form alliances, ask questions, etc. during otherwise structured debate. However, if any delegate is found misusing this privilege, chairs are advised to permanently take away the ability to pass notes.

If we cannot make the closing ceremonies, how do we collect our awards?

DartMUN does not mail awards. If a delegation cannot make closing ceremonies, they will not be able to collect their certificate(s) and/or gavel(s).

What is the policy for pre-written resolution papers?

All clauses must be written in committee, with no exceptions. Any delegate found having pre-written parts of resolutions will be barred from consideration for awards, and their advisor will be notified.

Why is there a delegation fee for DartMUN XVII?

DartMUN XVII is a self-funded and fully student-run conference. High volumes of cancellations make it difficult for us to put on the conference we strive to provide your delegates. To discourage last-minute cancellations and delegation size changes, we have implemented a small delegation fee. If this poses a challenge for your delegation, do not hesitate to reach out to dartmun@dartmouth.edu and fill out our Financial Aid form when completing your registration.

I registered with 8 delegates but would like to add more to my delegation. Do I need to pay the higher delegation fee?

Yes. Any changes between delegation sizes will incur the new delegation fee, which will appear in your additional invoice.
