The University of the Arctic Institute for Arctic Policy
The University of the Arctic Institute for Arctic Policy (IAP) is a collaboration between Dartmouth College, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the University of the Arctic. Through a series of meetings on Arctic issues requiring policy attention, IAP brings together representatives of governments, the academy, non-governmental groups, and indigenous peoples to discuss these issues, identify and prioritize the policy related research requirements, and help develop the agendas for governments to address pressing policy issues.
IAP Conferences have focused on Arctic security and climate change, health and well-being, climate change and human security, and marine shipping.
Greenland
During the development of the IGERT program strong ties between Dartmouth and Greenland have formed. The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC), and its Chair, Aqqaluk Lynge, have been instrumental in connecting Dartmouth faculty and students with ICC, the Greenland Self Government, Ilisimatusarfik (University of Greenland) and other centers and groups. In recognition of his lifelong pursuit of human rights for all indigenous peoples, Aqqaluk Lynge was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters at the 2012 Dartmouth Commencement.
