Overview

The Class of ’74 Health Equity Scholars Pathway is an undergraduate research opportunity that supports a mentored relationship between students and a TDI faculty member conducting an active research project(s) on topics related to health equity. It is funded by a gift from the Dartmouth College Class of 1974 and is open to all Dartmouth College undergraduates, regardless of major.

This hands-on experience aims to provide students deeper insights into how health equity research can be undertaken across a broad swath of academic disciplines. Over the course of the program, which begins each Fall term and typically lasts three terms, scholars shadow a faculty mentor to deepen your understanding of various health equity topics and develop research skills through direct participation.

Eligibility

  • A rising sophomore, junior or senior
  • Pre-identified health-equity focused project with a faculty mentor (see Potential Faculty list below)

Benefits & Responsibilities

At the start of each term, students and mentors will work out a mutually acceptable schedule for that term. In general, scholars are expected to participate about 10 hours per week and receive a stipend of $1,625 per term.

The student and mentor collaboratively select a project to complete by the end of the program; examples might include:

  • A white paper on a relevant health equity topic
  • Survey development
  • Data analysis related to health equity
