Winter + Spring 2024 CRR Design Walk-Through Meeting Outcomes

Meeting: 11/29/23 at 10:00am EST in Kemeny 006

The design walk-through was an introduction to the Classroom Rapid Refresh (CRR) design and its expression in the five refresh spaces identified for Winter Term 2024 and two refresh spaces identified for Spring Term 2024. The CRR program team is working to book a separate Spring Term 2024 design walk-through for the remaining three Spring Term 2024 refresh spaces. The Faculty and administrators from the primary resident department (Mathematics) was invited to provide input on how the Standard Classroom design would be applied to each physical space with consideration to furniture, finishes, and technology. Responses from the meeting are summarized below. Participants were also asked to submit feedback to dartgo.org/crr-feedback for any additional thoughts or input (feedback is welcome at any time).

General Comments

  • CRR aims to retain current seating capacity and where possible extend capacity within allowable limits.
  • Where applicable furniture will be replaced except if the current furniture is of a condition to warrant being kept.
  • All classrooms that are being refreshed within the Winter & Spring Terms '24 are of a Standard Classroom capability except Kemeny 008, which will meet Lecture Hall Classroom standards.
  • Existing chalkboards located on the sides of the rooms are to be replaced with dry-erase (white) boards.
  • All rooms will include clocks on the rear walls as standard and will also be equipped with a supplemental mobile lectern for teaching that is heigh-adjustable.
  • Rooms will have accent wall and carpet colors (color samples to be provided for comment)
  • Classroom recording is a standard feature of the CRR room designs, however, recording is via faculty opt-in for their classes and the system does not record automatically, to adhere to faculty pedagogical preferences.
  • Front-of-room installed multi-chalkboard surfaces will not be refreshed as part of CRR and are a separate project consideration being undertaken by Dartmouth Campus Services
  • While carpet will be replaced, floor boxes will be retained, and the CRR team is investigating if power can be brought online for floor boxes.
  • Kemeny 006, 007, 008, 105, 108 and Haldeman 028 will have the projection screens moved to above the center chalkboard, with center-aligned projection, providing a more equitable viewing experience for all students/users in the room.
