I have lived in a studio apartment for the past year that has been perfect for my situation as a postdoc, and I wanted to draw your attention to the listing (see link below)- it’s ideal for postdocs or visiting scholars/medical residents. The family who rents the apartment lives upstairs and they are incredibly kind and responsive. The apartment overlooks the Mink Brook forest (you can access a path to the forest around the corner) and it’s located on Lebanon street up the hill from the Hanover Co-op. It’s a 20 minute walk to Dartmouth’s campus via sidewalks or you can take the free AT bus from the stop near the co-op; note that the blue line will drop you off at 89 Lebanon Street on the way home if you request it (this is convenient at night and in winter). You can also take the bus the other direction to the hospital. The apartment is modest but well appointed, with furniture, a washer/dryer, a kitchen, great water pressure for showers, adjustable heating/AC, a nook for the bed, and again, the nicest landlords you can find.
