Prepping for Laser Cutting

The Digital Lab is holding a workshop today on “Prepping for Laser Cutting” in BVAC Room 109 from 5:30PM-7PM.
We’re going to talk about some laser cutter basics, how to take a pre-existing Illustrator/vector file and make it laser cutter ready, and how you might choose settings when cutting/etching.
No registration required, but limited available computers. Feel free to bring a laptop, with Illustrator or other vector software installed.

Digital Lab Q+A

The Digital Lab is happily back in person this Fall! The Digital Lab is a
computer lab for the Studio Art and Film & Media departments, but workshops
posted in the Vox are open to all of the Dartmouth community!
The first workshop this term is the Digital Lab Q+A today (9/14), from
5:30-6:30PM at the Black Family Visual Arts Center in Room 109. Bring any
questions you have about about digital art and film software!

Make a Podcast

The Digital Lab (virtually brought to you by BVAC) is holding a “Make a Podcast” workshop from 5-7PM ET on August 16th, open to everyone!

We’ll talk about building the story, choosing a tone and style, basic recording and audio editing skills, and talk about the different options to share a podcast with the world!

Rotoscoping in After Effects

The Digital Lab (virtually brought to you by BVAC) is looking at rotoscoping in Adobe After Effects on Wednesday August 11 from 5:30PM-7:30PM ET.
Rotoscoping is a method of drawing on top of film footage to create realistic looking animated action, and we’ll briefly look at the process in Photoshop. In After Effects rotoscoping tools are used to selectively mask moving objects in videos, and to track that mask through a video clip.

Audacity is an open source audio editing software. We’ll talk about how to record, edit the audio to reduce noise and make the audio as clear as possible, bring together outside tracks to make an interesting audio track, and add some cool effects.

We’ll start with a demo of how to film a scene, and how to composite them together into  the finished scene in Premiere Pro. Then we’ll talk about how to boost the effect in After Effects. Then you’ll get to try it out yourself!
