Outdoor Activities
There are so many activities in the UV! Listed below are a few - but please ask us if you have any specific activity in mind!!! Also, the Dartmouth Outing Club has a lot of resources on their website for activities like hiking, paddling, climbing, or nordic skiing.
- Riverview Farm: Apple season is August through November, blueberry season is in August, raspberry season is in September, and pumpkin season is September through November.
- Skating at Campion Rink: Public indoor ice skating and hockey leagues.
- Ford K. Sayre Memorial Ski Council: Several instructional programs are offered such as downhill recreation, freestyle, snowboarding, alpine racing etc.
- Upper Valley Trails Alliance: Experience the terrain of the Upper Valley by foot. Directions to hiking in many parts of the Upper Valley are provided on their website.
- Storrs Pond Swimming: Storrs Pond is a beautiful pond and beach area. The site also includes a pool, swings, jungle gym, tennis courts, and a special-function pavillion area with grilling facilities.
- Dartmouth Skiway: Great place to learn how to ski, just 20 minutes from campus. Heavily discounted for Dartmouth students and employees, and there is even a shuttle between campus and the ski area.
- Moosilauke Ravine Lodge: Enjoy a meal or stay in a bunkhouse at the bottom of the Dartmouth-owned 4000-footer. Moosilauke is the 10th highest peak in New Hampshire, and the gateway to the White Mountains.
Arts and Entertainment
- The Hopkins Center of Performing Arts (The Hop): Independent films, international dance groups, live music!
- Hood Museum of Art: Arts museum with changing exhibits, also offering workshops!
- Opera North: This local opera house offers an unparalleled experience that has garnered a national reputation.
- Lebanon Opera House: Local and international musicians, dance, and comedians!
- Northern Stage Co.: Fun theatre company. Changing run and shows, year-round.
- Nugget Movie Theater: Local, cute, movie theatre!
- Salt Hill Pub: In Lebanon, offering live music, karaoke and trivia.
- Lebanon Co-op Food Store cooking classes: Fabulous food co-op with cooking classes for all ages.
- King Arthur Flour Baker’s Education Center: The instructors at the Baking Education Center in Norwich represent some of the most talented bakers in the country and offer classes on bread baking, pastries, and more.

- Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT: A fantastic interactive science museum!
- Billings Farm and Museum, Woodstock, VT: A fun, living museum of Vermont’s rural past, as well as a working dairy farm.
- Quechee Gorge Village Quechee, VT: Rides on a miniature steam train, shopping mall, mini-golf, gorge, Segway tours!
- Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) Quechee, VT: Visit with snowy owls, eagles, and vultures! Learn about the Vermont environment and conservation science. VINS offers environmental programs and events, hiking trails, live exhibitions, and summer camps.
- Howe Library Hanover: The Howe Library in Hanover hosts events for children and families including story time, toddler play groups, and special programming for school-age.
Surrounding Towns that are Fun to Explore
If you want to get out of town here are a list of local towns and cities we find are fun to explore. Admittedly most are for their breweries and restaurants.
- Woodstock, VT: Come for Worthy Kitchen, a popular, rustic farm-to-table restaurant with craft beers and stay for the skiing and shops!
- Randolph, VT: Home of Chandler Center for the Arts and The Underground music venue, come for great art galleries, thrift shops, restaurants (a James Beard Award winner), and mountain biking trails.
- Stowe/Waterbury, VT: State Park, Cider mill, breweries, and the much-loved Ben & Jerry's factory.
- Burlington, VT: The most-populous city in Vermont that has superb restaurants & live music, waterfront park, & a street market.
- Montpelier, VT: Visit the smallest state capital in the US, but don't worry - what it lacks in size it makes up for in personality with numerous galleries and museums and an abundance of outdoor activities, from hiking and mountain biking to cross country skiing and challenging whitewater rafting and canoeing.
- Portsmouth, NH: Picturesque city with boardwalks & parks on the riverside.
- Portland, ME: An artsy town with good seafood.
- Windsor, VT: The picturesque birthplace of Vermont with Glass blowing, Harpoon brewery, & Mount Ascutney.
- Franconia Notch, NH: State Park with great hiking and places to eat, e.g. Schilling Brewery.
