White Activist Still Going To Mispronounce Asian Victims’ Names

Following the sickening anti-Asian hate crime which left eight dead in Atlanta, a growing movement has spread on Instagram to “say their names.” However, calls to “say their names” have not stopped activists from continuing to mispronounce Asian names in the same way they’ve been doing for years.

“You’re one Google search away from learning more, and furthering your knowledge about the horrible ways Asians have been treated in this country,” said white activist Lucy Jones, who was personally one Google search away from learning that “Feng” is not pronounced “Fang,” “Hyun” is not pronounced “He-yoon,” and that in Chinese “Tan” does not rhyme with “plan.”

“My Redbubble link is in my bio where you can buy ‘#StopAsianHate’ totes and t-shirts,” continued Jones, “all proceeds will go towards organizations dedicated to raising awareness of Asian-American hate.” Jones did not mention, however, that the totes in questions were sewn using cheap Chinese child labor.

At press time, Jones has urged her followers to “support local Asian businesses” during times like these, and directed them to Panda Express, P.F. Chang’s, and Scarlett Johansson movies.
