Submissions

World Outlook welcomes submissions from all current and recently-graduated undergraduate students, regardless of institutional affiliation. Content from most academic disciplines is accepted, provided that papers are relevant to the field of international relations. Papers to be considered for publication must be available in digital format and should include citations and a works cited page consistent with the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines. Submissions must reflect original work and must be written in English; embedded foreign characters are acceptable where necessary if translations are given. Please familiarize yourself with work typically published in World Outlook before submitting.

Reading Period

World Outlook is published twice a year and we prefer that writers not submit content more than twice a year. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, although paper reviews typically occur during the Fall and Spring academic terms (September – November; March – May).

Documents

Submissions should be between 12 and 25 pages in length, double-spaced in size 12 font. Longer submissions will be considered under exceptional circumstances. If submitting a senior thesis, please edit content to 30 pages or fewer.  Documents must be submitted electronically to World Outlook, properly paginated, and cited in-text in the author-date system with a works cited page in Chicago style. In your submission, please include your name, institution, year of graduation, and the title of the work.

For more information, please view the World Outlook Style Guide for guidance.

If you are interested in writing an opinion piece pertinent to current international affairs, please contact the World Outlook with a proposal. All columns must be at least 600 words in length and must include any relevant citations. Similarly, we do not accept unsolicited book reviews. If you are interested in reviewing, please write to World Outlook describing your intentions. The senior editorial staff retains the right to make changes to all submitted content.

Content submitted to our email account will typically receive confirmation of receipt within a week. The review process can take several months, and we ask for your patience as we determine whether your work will be published. Status inquiries can be directed to our email account and will be addressed as soon as possible.

Please submit documents for review as email attachments to world.outlook@dartmouth.edu in .doc, .docx or .rtf format. Include your name, institution, and the title of the work in the body of the email.
