Beatrice Jankowski, a native Chicagoan 130 years of age, tells reporters that the Cubs’ World Series win just doesn’t excite her. These past couple days, Cubs fans throughout the city have been celebrating this historic sports moment with fervor, but Jankowski says she is having trouble getting into the spirit.

“I’m happy they won, don’t get me wrong. This is all just very been-there-done-that for me,” Jankowski says letting out a bored sigh. She explains that she was alive for the first Cubs win 108 years ago and that after witnessing the parades and festivities the first time, this “same old” reaction has been a bit of a letdown. “Just wait,” she warns, “when they win next year, all these people partying in the streets will stay home and watch The Price is Right like me.”

Surely she should be excited by the fact that the World Series celebration in Chicago was the 7th largest gathering in human history? Not a bit. Jankowski still cannot feel the hype. When the Cubs won in 1908, she claims, Walter’s Hotdog Stand was giving out free wieners to everyone in a Cubs jersey. “That was something to get excited about!” For her, the Cubs’ victory and Chicago’s response just do not feel new or exhilarating. It looks as though there will be one person in Chicago having a dull weekend.
