The EEES Scholars Program is a workshop designed to diversify the next generation of academic leaders in the fields of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Earth Systems Science and Environmental Social Sciences.  We seek motivated people who are curious about graduate careers in the Environment and are looking for support in the graduate school application process.

The EEES Scholars Program has been expanded to become Dartmouth’s Scholars Program. Please see the Dartmouth’s Scholar’s Program here for workshops from 2023 and beyond.

What to expect from the EEES Scholars Program

The graduate application process can be opaque and difficult to navigate, presenting many barriers to prospective students. As part of efforts to increase the diversity and accessibility of graduate studies in ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental studies and earth systems, Dartmouth EEES (Ecology, Evolution, Environment & Society) encourages applicants to apply to the EEES Scholars Program. In this program, talented prospective people (EEES Scholars) will be selected and invited to Dartmouth College for a 3-day period of activities designed to provide the tools to expertly apply to graduate schools, and gain a deeper understanding of the Dartmouth EEES program. The EEES Scholars Program will focus on the graduate application process, connecting with EEES faculty and students, and helping to showcase Scholars’ academic achievements.

Who are we looking for?

Current undergraduates, recent college graduates, current Masters students, recent Masters graduates and those that are currently or have recently worked in the public or private sector are all welcome to apply!  You do not need to be a U.S. citizen. Students with backgrounds historically underrepresented in STEM and environmental fields are particularly encouraged to apply.

The EEES graduate program is committed to increasing the presence and visibility of promising students who will bring a diversity of viewpoints and cultures to STEM fields (particularly ecology, evolutionary biology, and earth systems science) and the environmental social sciences. Fostering a diverse, inclusive, and supportive community of scholars is critical to our mission. This EEES Scholars Program is part of a larger effort to build and support such an academic community.

Our program is inspired from sister programs at Princeton, Cornell, and Stanford. We stand in solidarity with these institutions and dedicate ourselves to creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive academic community.

Note admission into the EEES Scholars Program is separate from admission into EEES Graduate Program, but we encourage our scholars to submit formal applications to our graduate school after the conclusion of the Scholars Program.

Note: Application to the EEES Scholars Program does not have any application fees.
