International House, Tokyo hosted us for the 2024 meeting of the Northeast Asian Cooperation Dialogue (NEACD). The NEACD has served as a forum for dialogue among six Asia-Pacific countries for three decades. (Sadly, North Korea doesn’t answer the phone anymore, but it’s a terrific opportunity to speak with colleagues from China and Russia, as well as Japan and the ROK.

Prof. Susan Shirk (of UCSD’s School of Global Policy and Strategy) founded the Track 1.5 meeting for what she saw was an under-institutionalized region. It’s been a great meeting this year – fascinating conversations about regional security, and also wonderful as always to see my former GPS professors!
