NHPA hosted its annual conference in Nashua with a focus on sustainability. One interesting session included a talk by the City of Boston’s architect. Boston is one of the “green” leaders in the country. They recently incorporated LEED standards in their zoning code so all projects greater than 50,000 square feet must be LEED certifiable. Not sure NH is ready for this but there was lively debate on the subject and NH lawyers in attendance seem to agree that enabling legislature already exists.
Despite being the last session of the day, Peter Francese’s documentary film called “Community and Consequences” was a lively session. The film based on his book of the same title speaks to the graying of NH and the resultant change in community dynamics and some might say, functionality. It’s a must read for folks interested in NH community – not necessarily something we can all agree upon but very thought provoking.
