As part of the new Dartmouth swimming dock project, we monitored the temperature and flow of the Connecticut River. Below you will find velocity and temperature data for July. This information confirms that the currents are within typical safe swimming limits in the new dock location. The data also show that beginning to swim in July makes sense as the water temperature is above the 70 degree cold water limit where prolonged exposure can be problematic for some and air temps are in the comfy 75-80 range now. If you look carefully at the temperature plot, you can see short-term cooling after small rains and long-term cooling after larger rains that likely were on the regional scale.
