In November 2012, the College kicked-off a planning process for the Dartmouth Organic Farm at the Fullington property. Proposals were solicited from five firms. Maclay Architects were selected by the project’s steering committee. Numerous listening sessions were held with the steering committee, student groups, faculty, staff and other community members to learn how the property is currently used and how we might envision using the farm for teaching, research and other activities into the future. The Plan when completed will be a living document online. It will provide:
- An understanding of the property identifying opportunities and challenges for developing a program and facilities at the Farm in support of Dartmouth’s goal to become a sustainability leader;
- A program plan for the property that maximizes its support of this goals;
- A management plan for the property; Short-term and long-term plan for improvements to the property including the buildings.
Changes to the Town’s zoning ordinance have already been drafted to allow for agricultural, forestry and environmental education and research on the property. The first public hearing will be March 12 at the town office. The proposed zoning change will be voted on by the town in May.
