About Us

Serving the Upper Valley since 1956

Dartmouth Skiway’s laid-back attitude, affordable pricing, and longstanding legacy means you get a classic, unpretentious New England skiing experience.

The Heart and Soul of Skiing

At the Skiway, our mission is to be the heart and soul of skiing for Dartmouth College and the Upper Valley community.

About Dartmouth Skiway

You don’t come to the Dartmouth Skiway for champagne powder. You don’t come for thousands of feet of continuous vert or high-speed quads or a gourmet, overpriced lunch at the lodge. Those things are great – and you can find them at a lot of other ski areas across the world. Instead, the Skiway offers something you can only find here: a return to the simple, unvarnished New England ski experience with that quintessential Dartmouth character.

To understand what makes the Skiway special, you could watch the Ford Sayre youth ski team giggling as they build kickers and throw snowballs. You could feel the Dartmouth ski racers whizzing down the competition trail during practice, overhear a conversation among old friends who’ve run into each other at the McLane Family Lodge, or see a kid grinning ear-to-ear as his parents pick him up from his first-ever lesson, a newly minted lifelong skier. The Skiway’s community is its essence.

Being the heart of skiing in our community means we keep the needs of all of our guests in mind for every decision we make. Now, under new leadership, the Skiway is modernizing its operations and cultivating a culture that keeps guests, staff, and volunteers returning year after year. We are energized by the changes happening on the mountain and look forward to bringing some magic to the Skiway’s next chapter.

Our History

Dartmouth College has a longstanding ski legacy – it’s been hugely influential in developing the downhill skiing industry as we know it, not to mention its 100+ Olympian alumni and top-notch ski team. The Skiway is a key piece of that legacy, the physical embodiment of Dartmouth’s skiing tradition. And while you’re certainly skiing on hallowed ground at the Skiway, its unpretentious vibe makes it easy to forget that you’re carving down runs that have played host to some of the biggest names in ski history.

Meet the Team

Mark Adamczyk

General Manager

Mark has been with the Skiway since 2020. Prior to that, he ventured away from the East Coast to take a position as a lift operator in the fall of 2006 at Winter Park Resort in Colorado. The plan was to spend one season out west and return to Philadelphia for a “real job.” After 13 years in the ski industry though, Mark knows there are plenty of real jobs in the mountains. From Director of Lift and Summer Operations to leading the new Outdoor Adventure division at Winter Park Resort, Mark brings a wealth of experience in mountain operations and guest satisfaction to the Skiway. Mark loves music festivals, maple creemees from LCS, and really good coffee (especially now that he’s got two small children at home). But most of all, Mark loves skiing. Give him a wave next time you see him at the lodge!

Kim Essensa

Guest Experience Manager

Originally from Maine, Kim earned her BA in Fine Arts and Education from St. Lawrence University, then moved West. She has spent the last 14 years in Jackson Hole, WY, serving as Guests Services Manager at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort then Customer Experience Manager at Stio. Now returning to New England with her husband and young son, Kim joins the team as Skiway’s Guest Experience Manager – overseeing ticketing, rentals, retail, snowsports school bookings, and overall guest stoke. With Kim at the helm, we’re excited to amplify her guest-centric philosophies and upgrade your experience at the Skiway. She is a passionate skier, boater, and enjoys time in the garden when not on the slopes or the water.

Matt Fulton

Ski Patrol Director

Originally from New Jersey, Matt now lives in Enfield, NH and has held the post of Ski Patrol Director for nearly two decades. He is a National Ski Patrol (NSP) qualified Ski Patrol Instructor and Senior Level Patroller. As a Dartmouth alum ‘96, the Skiway is an integral part of Matt’s skiing history. Matt is a true ambassador for careers in the outdoor and emergency medicine fields. He is passionate about providing an excellent ski service to the community, students, and ski racers. You can find Matt, a dedicated telemark skier, dropping knees all over the mountain. He also works as a career Firefighter/Paramedic for a local city fire department.

Gerren Goodwin

Mountain Operations Manager

Prior to taking over as Mountain Operations Manager at the Dartmouth Skiway in 2019, Gerren managed operations at Suicide Six for the better part of a decade. With his education in ski resort management and years of experience working in mountain operations across the country, it is safe to say Gerren is passionate about the ski industry. He grew up skiing and is excited to share his love of all things outdoors with his young son, his wife, and the Skiway guests.

Sean Norton

Snowsports School Director

Sean is from the Upper Valley and grew up in Thetford, Vermont. He started skiing before he was two and grew his love and skills in skiing and snowboarding at the Skiway. In high school, Sean raced for Thetford Academy. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and started working at the Skiway as a ski instructor over his college break in 2008. Sean never left the Skiway and became our Snowsports School Director in 2015. Sean holds several top-level certifications including PSIA Certified Alpine Level 3, Children’s Specialist 2, and AASI and Nordic Level 1. During the offseason, he owns and operates Sean’s Lawn N’ Garden Services, LLC. and enjoys spending time on his boat, playing basketball, mountain biking, and hunting.

Want to join our team? We’d love to hear from you.

McLane Family Lodge

Completed in 2001, the 17,000-square-foot McLane Family Lodge is the centerpiece of the Skiway base area. The lodge, whose design won the 2002 Excellence in Architecture Award from the New Hampshire Chapter of American Institute of Architects, is built from natural materials native to the Upper Valley region, including a white pine timber frame and piers of New Hampshire granite on the balcony.

In addition to housing our retail shop, rentals, and ski school, the McLane Family Lodge is the perfect spot to warm up between runs, meet up with friends, or host your next event!
