Second Nature – Portraits and Passions: Art Exhibit at Matthews-Fuller Library

A collection of oils and pastels by New Hampshire artist, Susan Parmenter

Turtle PaintingA realist painter and award winning artist, Susan Parmenter lives and works in Sunapee, New Hampshire.

Interested in art since childhood, Susan’s professional career began in illustration and transitioned to fine art painting. She works primarily in oils and pastels, often sketching from life using gouache and watercolors, charcoal, ink or pencil. Small studies become reference material, recording ideas for larger paintings done in studio, as well as colorful mosaics.

Susan Parmenter in the StudioSusan enjoys incorporating a wide range of subject matter into her work – from landscapes, portraits and still-life to birds and wildlife.  But she finds particular inspiration in the beauty of nature and wilderness. Through her work, Susan hopes to encourage public awareness and the critical actions needed for the protection of declining species, addressing the effects of climate change and helping to stop the negative impacts of human behavior on our environment.

“I paint and draw what I love and feel.  I treasure the experience of creating art as well as the experience my art creates.”
