Dr. James O’Malley

Dr. O’Malley will provide general statistical expertise in the areas of social network analysis (e.g., as considered in Dr. Mahoney’s project) and statistical modeling of longitudinal or time/rate based variables (e.g., as occurs in Dr. Fu’s project). He has developed specific expertise in a vast array of prior work involving social network analysis, hierarchical and longitudinal models and comparative effectiveness research. In addition to this work, he has over 17 years of experience as a faculty-level academic statistician working on a variety of methodological and applied problems in health care, medicine and the social sciences.

The recent focal points of Dr. O’Malley’s research encompass methodological and applied research causal inference and comparative effectiveness research; methods for longitudinal, multilevel, and multivariate data; and social network analysis. He also works actively in several areas of medicine and health policy through collaborations with physicians, medical specialists, social scientists, and health services researchers. In addition to the relevance of his current and past research, he has also been principal investigator of multiple federally-funded projects and have mentored several junior colleagues, post-doctoral fellows, and Ph.D. students.
