Dartmouth is proposing to relocate its existing swim dock on the Connecticut River. The preferred location is about 200 feet down stream of the existing dock. The proposed access includes a pervious concrete path, stairs, an entrance kiosk next to the existing parking lot, a concrete landing, stormwater detention areas, restoration of vegetation, and concrete anchors for the dock. The proposed design will clean up the river bank, remove invasive species, better manage stormwater through infiltration and storage and provides ADA access to the dock.
The purpose for the project is to improve safety for swimming and river access. An Alternatives analysis – January 21, 2011 was prepared that indicated that this location is the safest for swimming on the Dartmouth riverfront and that the proposed access design provides ADA accessible grades with the minimum amount of impact to natural resources. This project is the first component of an on-going master planning project to naturalize the Dartmouth riverfront and improve existing uses.
The College filed permits with the state and town in February. The application shows existing conditions, proposed conditions, planting plan, grading, impact areas, sediment and erosion control, notes, and details. The plans were prepared by Milone & MacBroom, Inc. dated February 17, 2011.
The Conservation Commission will visit the site on Wednesday at 4 pm prior to their regular monthly meeting. The meeting begins at 5 pm at the Town Offices. The public is welcome.
