About Us

Mission

The Uniformed Services Student Group (USSG) at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine is the community of medical students of various backgrounds who all share the experience of military service. Whether that service is/was as a family member, veteran, or future service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard; our goal is to build a community and better understand what it means to be a serve in both the military and medical realms.

Essential Task List

  1. Camaraderie. Alongside (and perhaps above all) other goals, our vision for USSG is to facilitate a sense of community for those of affiliated with military service. This is just one of the many forms of support to help us in our endeavor to survive the ordeal of medical education. Additionally, we want to reach out to and welcome any potential future classmates as they interview at 2 Rope, Ferry Rd as we all did before them.
  2. Mentorship. A surprising number of providers in the vicinity of Dartmouth are affiliated with the military in one way or another. Many of these professionals are more than willing to assist our group with their mentorship despite their busy schedules. We have a substantial roster (shared internally on our Google Drive) and continue to expand it. Our vision is to connect USSG members with local military providers so that we may seek out mentorship as our individual schedules permit.
  3. Guest Speakers. Our mentors may prefer to speak to us all at once about a specific topic so we anticipate a handful of events throughout the year for this purpose.
  4. Leadership. We are fortunate to have among us those with extensive service experience. Moreover, we all possess a diverse set of life experiences to share with each other. We anticipate a handful of leadership-oriented exercises to share past experiences and learn from one another so that we can be better leaders in the future.
  5. HPSP Information. HPSP can be a complicated beast, so we want to hold an annual brief to elaborate precisely how HPSP works and how it fits in with the Dartmouth curriculum.
