— House News —
Our first elections to the West House Executive Board will be coming up at the end of term. More details to come — if you’re interested in running for a leadership position in the House please feel free to contact Prof. Hickox at Ryan.C.Hickox@dartmouth.edu
— HOMECOMING WEEKEND Events —
It’s Homecoming weekend! Prior to the Bonfire on Friday night, the West House first years will gather at 7pm in Fahey Ground Floor for the pre-“sweeps” “spirit station”. (Since we’re on the traditional sweeps route, we have the advantage of being able to all gather as a House before the Bonfire, rather than being spread around in the first-year clusters.)
First-years should meet up with their FYRE UGAs and head over to Fahey for 7pm. All Westians are invited to come down and join for pizza and music prior to the Bonfire. We’ll also have some hot chocolate and snacks in Fahey after the Bonfire, so stop by and warm up afterward.

At 6pm on Friday, the House Professor’s Residence we will be hosting an alumni reception for the Class of 1962 (who generously funded your House Professor’s Faculty Fellowship a couple years ago). They’d love to meet with some students, so if you’d like to get to know some of Dartmouth’s distinguished alums and hear about some of Dartmouth’s history, please email Ryan.C.Hickox@dartmouth.edu.
We will be hosting a West House tailgate party prior to the football game on Saturday, on the lawn next to the North Park/South House “Onion”. We will have coffee, donuts, and hot breakfast sandwiches with music and lawn games starting at 11:30. Please stop by on your way over to the game!
On Sunday the DOC will be leading a House hiking trip to Gile Mountain in Norwich (the fire tower) leaving from behind Robinson Hall at 12:30, returning around 2:30. Signup details will be sent around shortly.
We have FREE tickets for six students and two staff to The Capitol Steps at the HOP on Thursday night, and four FREE student tickets to the Dartmouth Gospel Choir on Saturday night. If you’d like to claim a free ticket please contact Pamela.K.Duffy@dartmouth.edu. For a full list of shows with FREE House tickets see: https://sites.dartmouth.edu/west-house/2016/10/04/shows-at-the-hop/
Resident Fellow Sophie Leung will be hosting a “Do I want to go to Med School?” Study Break for West House members (although all are welcome) on Sunday October 30th at 4pm. If you are concerned about the post-Homecoming work you have to catch up on, have no fear! The event is short and sweet, and there will be homemade baked goods for you to enjoy!
Weather permitting, in the next week or two we’ll be organizing a House stargazing night up at Shattuck Observatory. Keep an eye out for details.
