Recent Journal of Plankton Research paper in the news…

Our fully open-access Horizons paper in the Journal of Plankton Research has been picked up by both the Dartmouth Communications office and the Concord Monitor.

David Brooks’ Concord Monitor headline is outstanding:

“Those nasty cyanobacteria blooms are like a monster B-movie: They come from beneath the water’s surface!”

Notably, this paper was long in the making, dating back to a 2014 Freshwater Science paper and a number of unsuccessful NSF proposals. I’m reminded of advice from Jim Kitchell, nearly 30 years ago, to persist with good ideas even in the face of bad reviews.

This work is also a tribute to long-term collaboration between faculty and former undergraduates at Dartmouth:  thanks, Cayelan!
