Remixing Manuscripts into Art

By Arielle Feuerstein

Remix Alum Benjamin Patrick was featured in a local newspaper, Seven Days, for his one of a kind Christmas cards. According to the article, Patrick uses digital tools to make a design based on the Book of Revelation, and then he prints it onto archival paper.  Patrick said that his work is a “visual détournement of the original manuscript that reconstitutes it for a new meaning in our present and its future,” in an interview with Seven Days

The article also mentions Patrick’s work with Remix — in which he sourced religious imagery from library manuscripts in Dartmouth’s collection several years ago. The spirit of Remix is all about merging ancient manuscripts with modern tools and technology to create something entirely new, and it is so exciting to see Patrick continuing this work.
