About

Founded in 1998, the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science aims to increase scientific awareness within the Dartmouth community by providing an interdisciplinary forum for sharing undergraduate research and enriching scientific knowledge.

The DUJS prints quarterly journals that include science news and review articles, along with research by undergraduates. Weekly Dartmouth Science News articles are also posted to the DUJS website.

The Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science is a member of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), an international group of open access journals as scientific and scholarly journals that meet high quality standards by exercising peer review or editorial quality control.

Article Review Process

Research and review articles submitted to the journal undergo an editorial and peer review process prior to publication.  The process is not blinded at this time, but we keep the process transparent and fair as we work with undergraduate students interested in publishing their work in the DUJS.

Plagiarism Screening

We will begin to run all review and research articles through Grammarly, an online tool used both to screen from grammatical errors and identify plagiarized text, as an additional measure in the process of preparing articles for publication.  If large blocks of text are found to be abstracted directly from another source, we will notify the author of our findings and ask for one or more sections of the article to be rewritten.  With repeated offenses, the author will not be permitted to publish future work in the DUJS.

Fees for Authors?

Publishing with the DUJS is currently free of charge for authors There are no article processing charges, nor are there article submission charges.

Copyright Policy:

Authors of articles published in the DUJS retain full copyright and publication rights without restrictions for both print and online publications. All works are licensed under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC License. More information may be found here.

Publication Metrics

Each year, the DUJS publishes three issues (in a particular volume, numbered No. 1, No. 2, No. 3).  Each print issue contains approximately 15 review articles and original research articles.  We may occasionally feature a Faculty Spotlight, ISEC high school essay contest winning essay(s), and a Science News section, but in a given calendar year, we publish approximately 45 review and original research articles total.
