Renew
- Books and scores may be renewed a total of 3 times if they are not on hold for or recalled by another patron. After 3 renewals the patron should return the item for check in. It can then be checked out again to restart the process. As a rule reserve items, CDs and DVDs must be returned to the library for renewal.
- If the item is in hand, select the Renew (No Patron) from the Drop Down Menu and scan the barcode in the “Key or scan item barcode” box. A message box will appear asking if you want to renew item and you should select “yes”. Figure 1 below
- If the patron calls to renew, bring up the patron’s record in Sierra by name, select “Checked-Out Items” from the list on the left, select the item patron wants to renew, and select the “Renew” box. A small box stating “The item was renewed” will appear and the new due date will be displayed next to the item. Figure 2 below
- Two other messages may show when attempting to renew an item: “Too soon to renew” in which case the patron will have to renew later; “Too many renewals” – as stated above, item can be renewed maximum of 3 times then must be brought in for checking in and out again if no one else wants it.
- Patrons may renew their own items by accessing their library account through the Dartmouth College Library website.
