Places

  • Back Study Room which is in the back of the library has 2 study tables along with study carrels and computers.
  • Buck – Upper Buck is located on the same floor as the Music dept.  Go all the way down the hall to the left as you exit the library and up the stairs.  Lower Buck is directly below Upper Buck.  There will be signs.
  • Dartmouth Library Depository (DLD) – used to be called Storage Library.  This facility is located off campus and patrons may request items through the library catalog.  Find the call number in the library catalog and select “Request Selected Item”.  Then fill out the short form that appears including choosing a pickup location.  Patrons will be notified when the item is ready for pickup – usually in about 24 hours.
  • Elevators – Exit the library by the main door and turn left and the closest elevator is to your left.  It goes up one floor and opens opposite the Hinman mailboxes.  The second floor stop takes one to Alumni Hall and the Top of the Hop.  There is a small elevator by the Music Department that goes down to the first floor of the Music Department and Vaughan Recital Hall and up to Spaulding Auditorium.
  • Faulkner Music Hall – lower level of Music dept.  Go down the hall to the left as you exit the library and down the stairs before the end of the hall.  Then follow the signs.
  • Front Study Room (also known as Hart-Grinnell Audiovisual Center or Lounge)– equipped with listening equipment, computers, study table, carrels and comfortable chairs is just in side the window bank of the library.
  • Hartman Rehearsal Hall – lower level of Music dept.  Exit the library, turn left, go down the hall and down the stairs near the end of the hall.  Then follow the signs.
  • Hart-Grinnell Audiovisual Center (also known as Front Study Room or Lounge) – equipped with listening equipment, computers, study table, carrels and comfortable chairs is just in side the window bank of the library.
  • Hold Shelf is to your left when you sit at the front desk.  Items requested to be picked up here from the Storage Library and other Dartmouth Libraries along with Borrow Direct books, Inter library Loan and Document Delivery books are kept on this shelf.
  • Lost and Found – Small items of value (ID cards, keys, phones) are kept in the main drawer of the front desk.  Larger items are kept on the far end of the front counter.  When possible, notify the owner that they item is here in Paddock.
  • Lounge (also known as Front Study Room or Hart-Grinnell Audiovisual Center) – equipped with listening equipment, computers, study table, carrels and comfortable chairs is just in side the window bank of the library.
  • Media Room is first door to your left as you exit the library.  Dartmouth students, faculty and staff may use this room by checking out the key at the main desk.  The key is kept in the top right drawer of the cabinet below the Hold Shelf.
  • Music Department is down the hall to the left as you exit the library.  Go up the small staircase at the end of the hall and the department is on your left.
  • Practice Rooms are in two locations and are first come first serve.  There are several below the Music Department office which is down the hall to the left as you exit the library.  The others are down the hall directly to the right as you exit the library.  Door marked #65 on the left opens to these practice rooms.
  • Restrooms – The closest mens and ladies rooms or bathrooms are down the hall to the left as you exit the library on either side of the drinking fountain.
  • Stacks – Paddock has both fixed and moveable stacks or also known as bookshelves.  Operating the moveable stacks can be confusing; just remember that all lights (except the main panel) must be off for you to move a stack.  Then press the black button next to the stack you wish to enter.  It will light up red and the stack should move.  There is a gray safety bar along the bottom of each stack.  If the stack is moving and you press the bar with our foot, the stack will stop.  Ask staff for help when necessary.
  • Storage Library – now known as the Dartmouth Library Depository or DLD – facility located off campus and houses older runs of Paddock’s journals along with the LP collection, Dewey cataloged books and other older book editions.  Patrons may request items through the library catalog.  Find the call number in the library catalog and select “Request Selected Item”.  Then fill out the short form that appears including choosing a pickup location.  Patrons will be notified when the item is ready for pickup – usually in about 24 hours.
  • Studio 1 (Studio 29 etc.) – Rooms with these numbers on the doors are located downstairs in the Music Dept.  Go left as you exit the library all the way down the hall and down the stairs to your left.
  • Water Fountain – Turn left as you exit the library and the fountain is down the hall on the left.
